It’s called The Hidden Hut for a reason. Finding us may turn into a small adventure… but please be assured that the secluded location is well worth it.

From Portscatho, you walk around half a mile along the coast path to reach us. It is a scenic trek in the north-easterly direction towards Porthcurnick Beach. When you get to the granite steps leading down to the beach, carry on straight up the other set of steps in front of you and the hut is just over the brow of the hill.

For info on parking, public transport and disabled access, take a look at our FAQs below.

FAQs

Can I book a table for lunch?

There's no need to book. Simply turn up and we'll look after you when you get here.

The long table seating in front of the hut is casual and communal - if there is space, pull up a pew. We also have smaller tables dotted up on the bank. All of our food is packaged to take away so there's no pressure if you can't find a seat on site - there is an entire beach and coast path for you find a picnic spot.

What happens when it rains?

Rain never stops play, we open whatever the weather. Some of the most atmospheric feast nights have been held in horizontal rain!

The kitchen has a steel roof so we can cook out in most weathers. Extreme easterly winds when its unsafe be out on the coast, or storms that cut our power off are the only things that have caused us to close the hatches in the past, but we can count these occasions on one hand.

All of our seating is uncovered and open to the elements, so we always recommend dressing for the weather.

Parking, taxis and public transport?

Parking is at the Porthcurnick Beach Car Park (the one on the road into Portscatho). This is a short stroll away from the hut along the coastal footpath. All parking proceeds go towards the local parish fund.

Buses run a direct service with stops on route from Truro and St Mawes. See timetable.

I have limited mobilty, can I make it to the hut?

The hut is a short walk (around 500 meters) from Portscatho and the Porthcurnick Beach car park along the coast path. The ground is fairly rugged and there are steep granite steps (with a handrail), so good mobility is required to reach us.

We do not have wheelchair accessible toilet facilities on site. The nearest public disabled toilets are in Portscatho next to Tatams.

If you have limited mobility, you may prefer someone to collect a takeaway lunch for you or drive you down to the beach via Rosevine.

If you require assistance, please do not hesitate to ask our team.

Can I bring my dog?

Absolutely. Both the hut and Porthcurnick Beach are dog friendly. Dogs are allowed on the beach all day, all year round. There is a dog waste bin on the Rosevine slipway.

Can I see the menu?

Our menu at the hut changes daily. Freshly made dishes based on whats in season and caught locally are chalked up on the blackboard each morning. It's not possible for us to share a particular day's menu in advance on request, but we often share menus on Instagram / Facebook stories, so do follow us if you are interested.

See our Lunch page for more details on what to expect.

Can I order a beer or wine with my lunch?

We're unlicensed to sell alcohol at the hut, but you're more than to BYO. We have bottle openers handy if needed!

I'd love to come to a feast night, how do I get tickets?

Our feast calendar are announced in the spring, with the first tickets going on sale in June.

Feast tickets go on sale via Eventbrite at midday on the 1st of the month, for that month.

More info can be found on our Feast Nights page.

Can I swim in the sea?

Absolutely, and many of our team do on a daily basis!

The bay is known for its safe, calm waters and popular with sea swimmers all year round.

Can I moor my boat?

Small boats can be parked and seasonally stored in the field above the beach for a minimal charge. Please enquire at the local National Trust office 01872 580553.

If you're coming from Porstcatho, you can hire SUP boards and kayaks from Portscatho Paddles.

For larger boats, you're very welcome to drop an anchor and row in. It's a great way to arrive and beats finding a parking space!

What payments do you accept?

We are completely cashless. You can pay by card, contactless and Apple/Android Pay.

How can I contact you?

The best way is to pop down and see us! There is no internet or phone signal at the hut, but if you need to get in touch remotely, you can drop us an email us at: info@hiddenhut.co.uk
